you guys that work with the big carriers , whats the response when you say you can fit or maneuver into a space, theres a place in DTLA thats super tight and i mean super tight and they always send a 53. in that case what would you do ?

do you risk it all to deliver 8 pallets ?

cause my company sent another driver and he did it, but im telling you its like maybe 1 foot from trailer to fence and one foot from bumper to hitting a car

If you can’t do it, you can’t do it. It’s that simple.

The other guy was probably lucky enough to not have cars parked in bad spots.

2D071F70-7B4D-47C4-B2CA-2AD222872BC0.png I had to put 1plt off at the Shelby county jail in Memphis. The street was lined with cars, including one parked where the grassy area is to the right of the dock. I had to goal 3 times. I have a sleeper and 53’ Reefer.

If you don't think you can make a dock, you bring it back. Takes less time to fill out an undelivered freight report than an accident form.

It's ok to be in the safety bubble once in a while. But make no mistake, if you are a habitual person to bring back freight that other drivers can deliver... Best case scenario; other drivers will haze you. Worst case, dispatch/management will question your competence of being able to do your job.

Of course that depends on the company, or the terminal.

At some barns being a totally incompetent screwup lands you on the "A" list that gets catered to.

We got drivers that will sit in the break room before they leave and dump out all their paperwork on the table. They sort their stuff in two neat piles; the first one is all the stuff they will deliver, and the second one is all the stuff they plan on bringing back. And they are quite vocal about it so their loader can hear them. "I ain't doing this, I ain't doing that, this one's coming back, and that one needs to be on a short trailer, and this one better be nose loaded cause I ain't doing it".

One time I got stuck with a mini fridge for a Chick-fil-A that was brought back three times. None of the other drivers could get it the freight off. 75 lbs box strapped to a pallet. I was the only one to figure out that you can park next door at an abandoned restaurant, cut the banding, and handcart the box 50 feet down the sidewalk. It's unbelievable how lazy some of my coworkers are.

Terminal manager ever thought to ask them if they were refusing work or suggest that they were being insubordinate without attempting the delivery?
