You’d hate to see what we load in a tandem van in Ontario. Lol

What you can load legally and what you can load are two different things. This is a culture, that exists in this industry, that needs to be eliminated.
Legal axle weights are in place for a reason.

I never said it wasn’t legal. You said never more than 45-48000 in a tandem. We load 54000 every day. Perfectly legal.

I think you will find steer axle max legal weight in Ontario with out a permit for a Tractor trailer is 16900lbs(7700kgs) depending on axle and tire rating.

Going by this front axle 7700 kgs so ok 16975 front axle
But how do you interpret this

    Feature

    Weight Limit

    a) by manufacturer’s axle rating or default

    i. GAWR (if verified),

FRONT AXLE MAXIMUM (LOWEST OF A, B AND C)

    Feature

    Weight Limit

    a) by manufacturer’s axle rating or default

    i. GAWR (if verified), or

ii. If GAWR not verified, the lower of:

    1. 5,000 kg, and

    2. the sum of the maximum tire load ratings

    b) by tire width

11 kg × combined tire widths in mm

    c) by axle unit description

    Single Axle: 7,700 kg

You go to the lowest rating
    Examples
If you have a 12000lb axle with G or H rated tires your max is 12000lbs
If you have a 13200lb axle with G rated tires with a load rating of 6160lbs each as singles your max would be 12320lbs. With H rated max load is 6600lbs as a single. You could max out @ 13200.
if you have 385/65R22.5 L rated tires that are rated for 11000lbs each and a 22000lb axle your max weight is still 16940(7700kg). Unless you have it Permited then your max would be what the permit is for up to 22000lb.
I could be wrong but that is how I understand it. Maybe someone more experienced in heavy haul in Ontario can weigh in an correct me if I am wrong.

Out there in the center of the universe, you would go to the 1100lb per foot if the province allows that kind of weight. Adjust the formula to suit yourself. If I am not mistaken, you are also allowed quad axle arrangements, correct?

And 5 axles. Trust me, I don’t think you should load more than 45 on a tandem either. But it is what it is. Ontario - the California of Canada.

    BigHossVolvo and not4hire Thank this.
