Hello all. New guy here. I've been a Class A driver in the NYC area for 20yrs now. I drove all sizes of trailers and straight jobs all over NYC/NY/NJ.

It might be time for me to move on to a different area of the country. I'm looking very hard at South Carolina.

My question is, is it possible to make $100k driving a truck in SC that's not over the road stuff? I want to be home every day. I don't have a hazmat but I can get one no doubt.

    What do you guys say?

The cost of living is significantly lower in SC than it is in NY, Benore Logistics advertises $22 an hour and is a local company. There are also freight terminals for almost every major LTL in the upstate region around Spartanburg to Greenville.

SC is a right to work state, unions don’t have that much power here over wages. The BMW factory workers were starting at $18 an hour.

You can make $80K - $100K as a line haul driver for the LTL companies as @cncking2000 suggested.
May or may not make that the first year until you figure out the best runs.
Cost of living in the Southeast is much, much cheaper than what you're used to.

Estes Express is big in South Carolina and has local and regional work.
    Need hazmat, doubles endorsements.
Have to live within 75 miles of whichever terminal you go to.

Most line haul jobs with LTL companies are home every day.
I know two drivers that run from Nashville to Indianapolis every day; home every day.
    Drop & hook runs.
LTL companies have regular tractor-trailers, doubles, box trucks.

I've been in the teamsters union here for 20yrs. I don't care if it's union or not. Just looking to get out of this area. Yes, cost of living up here is way high, but I would still need about 90-100k down south to maintain my lifestyle.

Three most well known LTL carriers are:
    Estes Express Lines
    Old Dominion Freight Line
    R&L Carriers
    `
Many other lesser known outfits, such as
    Saia, Inc
