What's covered in truck driving school? What is it like from start to finish? When truck driving school is done, do you have to go otr or can you do regional runs? I would like to run refrigerated regional driving once I get my cdl and complete truck driving school...

Some schools are just scam and only teach someone how to pass the CDL test. I went to the trucking company for free training and even they basically push you thru their system. They show the basics on how to drive their truck. I got training on how to drive in the snow and the mountains because they did training in Salt Lake City UT.

You can do whatever you can find a job doing with a new CDL. You may have a good company doing what you want that would hire you and you may not. Some go OTR, others run years and never have to.

Find out if you're medically qualified first.
If so, get to school, get a CDL, and get to work. No excuses.
If not, let it go.
PRO TIP: If you're on SSI, you probably AREN'T medically qualified.
I wish you every success. -
Uhaul has refrigerated regional runs now?

A good school should tell someone how to make left and right turns in city streets. How to drive down a mountain without overheating the brakes. How to adjust the slack in brakes if you need to do manual. How to trip plan so you can make sure you will be on time for delivery. How diesel can gell in cold temps and you need to add antigell sometimes. How to load a 53' trailer for california bridge law if your getting loaded in different state. So your legal when you get to california. Their is lots of little things to learn

First, I passed my dot physical.
Arranged financing.
Chose an accredited school.
It was a 4 week class. Week one was book. All the book you needed to know to pass the test. I also took the endorsements tests. Get it over with all at once.
Week 2 was range practice. Backing and driving forward in specific patterns. This helped me learn to shift as well.
3 and 4 were mixed. Range half a day, street half a day. 4 students to a truck, each driving for around an hour on the street.
My school had it so their instructors could test us. Passed my 2nd try, because I touched a curb on the first try.
Overall, it was a great experience.
You can get a job that fits your taste, you may just need to look around a bit. Be prepared for some training from a company driver so they know you're safe.born&raisedintheusa and homeskillet Thank this.
