His entire trip involved fueling within his company terminals and driving between terminals on major highways. He did not stop elsewhere to fuel up and did not stop at any customer locations. So for whatever little it's worth, it sounds to me like if it was a bollard strike that caused this it was probably not his doing. Presumably there will be an investigation. His company ought to know where he went so they should be able to figure this out. Even if he did not do this damage, at the very least, he is responsible for overlooking the damage on his pretrip which is an issue in and of itself obviously and they will have to deal with that.

And I would like to thank all of you, the input has been extremely helpful. I'll let you know how it turns out.

No, they are not along highways.

They are in nearly every shipper and receiver, truckstop, parking lot, etc.

He either hit one and is trying to cover it, or didn't do a pretrip and is trying to cover it.

    There is no third possibility.

I know what he told you and you want to believe him. Really, so do I. But I have enough trucking and mechanical repair experience to tell you this story doesn't add up.

Of course he's nervous and shaken. His job is MOST DEFINITELY on the line.

Still, all is not lost. He'll land on his feet somewhere.

    Just, maybe not in trucking.

Well now, not every company terminates you over hitting a pole. I am sure they might place him on probation which is hogwash anyway if it is an at-will employment state to begin with. Then, probation is pretty much indefinite. It apparently occurred on private property, wasn't a DOT record able (I don't think at least), and nobody is claiming any damages anywhere. Some stores you can buy a spray that will take the yellow paint off the bumper. Someone backed into a pole in my car once and had orange paint all over the back side of the bumper, the stuff I used took it all off. And it was far worse looking than this bumper.

From what he has told me in the past there are cameras everywhere in the terminals, so if that's the case they ought to be able to determine if this happened in the terminal without too much difficulty.

    Very true.

Not all terminate you, but some do.

MANY terminate you for failing to report damage.

MANY truckers fix such damage instead of reporting it OR calling their Mom.

do you know for a given FACT, that he did not pull into a donut/coffee shop parking lot?

    or a truck stop?

or a convenience store parking lot?

when i did line haul, (apparently what your son does) i took my breaks, just about anywhere i could get my truck into. i'm betting that nearly 99.999% of the other here do the same dang thing.

this from you back in May 4th, 2017, pretty much your first posting here...

he has been driving just shy of 4 years? under getting treatments for his condition as well???

so tell me, he is now maybe 34 years old.....give or take a couple of months.

you mean to tell me, that in the 4 years YOU have been here, he could never be here?

you mean to tell me, given his medical condition to his brain, he has full function of his capabilities and can recognize or not he did this damage?

you mean to tell me, he is capable of telling the whole story?

    i think not.

good luck to him, i guess he needs a spokesperson like you to defend his actions.

Ha. I know what you mean. You do have a point. Waiting to report it definitely wasn't the best choice to make, if he even does report it at all.
