    And there are shippers that won’t let you use chains on coils. It goes both ways.

    Thinner coil rolls that lay on pallets can use straps. They're not really going anywhere.

    Those that lay on the trailer lengthwise. Chains

    Even with some sort of protection between the chain and the coil like a piece of mud flap?

    Depends on the coils. They're out there. It's what the shipper wants.

    Miami, AZ is one place.

    If they are skidded coils, every time for me. If it goes in coil racks I always chain them. I’ve never been to a shipper that says no chains.

    Most high end rod coils or slinkies are strap only. Some high-end palletized are strap only.

    Some high-end bar is strap only.

    But any one with a brain could chain then damage free.
