Negligent operator rules

Trying to put together a reference for our other company drivers here.

We all know that each state has a negligent operator threshold before a license suspension occurs (I think it's a federal standard of 4 points in 24 months).

We also know that most violations for CDL holders have an increased point penalty, regardless of whether or not the violation occurred in a commercial vehicle; and stay on record longer for the sheer fact that the driver is a CDL holder(in California, the points stay on record for 5 years as opposed to 3).

We also know that, because we drive more miles than a non CDL holder, our exposure to potential violations is greater and traffic school is not an option available to us to remove points, so unless we fight the ticket and prevail, we are stuck with no options with the points.

Does anyone know how to request DMV, by state(as procedures are likely to vary), to increase the point threshold before the driver is notified that he's at the point where the license will be suspended?

 

I'm currently at 6 points in 5 years, with 3 due to age off at the end of the month. I only have 1.5 points in 24 months when I hit an unexpectedly long downhill and failed to control my speed. Well below the 4 point standard.

I did, however, need help when my oldest points put me over the limit and had it raised from the standard 4 points to 6 in 24 months. This was in August of 18. These points were accrued before I was driving commercial.

Since I am sure that it's not common knowledge, nor automatically done, that the limit can be increased for CDL holders, I am just trying to assist our other drivers before they get to that point.

200 points in 2 years? You should be in prison, or at least banned for life from driving anything bigger than a bicycle ......

 

Maybe in "Grand Theft Auto", but WTH would I know?

 

Or even in the same reality...... what state allows 200 points in 2 years?
