I am looking for others that have had Allison automatic transmission failures as a result of improper driveline angles sending torsional vibrations to the transmission and damaging the first clutch pack.
This has happened to two of our 6 axle 2015 Petes with approx 250,000 miles on them.
Allison says it is the manufacturer's problem for building trucks that should have the axles shimmed properly for driveline alignment.
My Peterbilt dealer says they were aware of the problem but did not see any reason to notify owners of the trucks they sold, to warn us of the potential damage that could be to the transmission.
The first transmission we r&r in our shop. Within three weeks we had another transmission failure; we took that truck to Allison for analysis and repair. About $15,000 plus about $10,000 for the first one in our shop we are now $25,000 out of pocket plus downtime expenses.
I would like to get Peterbilt to step up and be responsible for the truck they build. I would also like to see Allison engineer a LOCK nut or secure tab or pin on the large nut at the rear of their transmission rather than the friction nut they currently have. This nut takes a special wrench, has to be torqued to a specific setting and requires the back of the transmission to be disassembled to get to it. Certainly something most people would not be able to do themselves.
How many more are out there with the same problem?

I have heard about one other person who had the same problems with theirs and the end result was new clutches, warranty covered most of the Bill ,but the truck was down for about 30 days, drive lines angles was discussed with them!

It would be good to know, Allison warranty or Peterbilt warranty. Who accepted responsibility?

Out of curiosity did you set the driveline angle on at least one truck after this happened and they said it was the cause? If you did, have you had any issues since? [this is not a derogatory remark.....it would be a way to prove what they are saying and then you might have recourse as long as you have the data form your results]
