Why do trucking schools not teach this to new drivers?

Having the Jake on especially for new drivers is not a good thing it can cause the engine to practically stall.. depending on how old the truck is.. to stall almost instantly.. Effectively using the foot brake is the method to efficiently dropping RPMS. and IMHO Floating is just what drivers do because they are lazy.. period.

 

You only get 3 or 4 weeks on average for trucking school man.....that ain't enough time to simulate every possible situation. The majority of your learning comes once you encounter those situations.....the real world of trucking.

 

Also, many, if not most, have gone to automatics. I trained, tested in and drive an auto. I did get lucky, due to a inexperienced person at the DMV, I did not end up with the auto only restriction on my license. So, don't have to worry about retesting if the need occurs. Just get someone to teach me properly.
I've driven manuals my whole life, so I think I'm teachable. But, I know it is a different ball of wax than a 4 wheeler and do not presume I could just hop in one and head down the road without training.

 

They don't teach such things for two reasons.

1. Most schools probably don't have any such hills to teach a person.

2. Most rookies that attend a school won't be in a field pulling a load of corn, or dragging logs off a mountain. They'll usually be tooling down the highway, where such situations are pretty rare.
