So, either he fell asleep, had a medical emergency, or lost control on an icy road. Not wearing a seatbelt could have been the difference between living and dying in all three examples.

Unless medical the impact and no seatbelt killed driver.
We lost driver this year, no seatbelt, driver ejected out the windshield. Cab of truck virtually undamaged.
