If everybody followed those rules and structured their pay based on those rules NYC would be a snap.
Too many drivers just do what they want. albeit maybe not aware.

Just want to add ,The permit usually says- any thing over 96 in wide or 55 ft long is restricted to the hrs of 10pm to 5am. So if your load delivers at 9 am legally 2 separate days to deliver.

I am going to disagree with you. Not that what you are saying is incorrect because it is correct. But, because your losing context. In the 2010 census, NYC had a population of almost 9 million souls. In fact, NYC has a population of MORE than 2/3rds of the states. Not combined mind you, just the population. You have any idea of the massive logistics it would take to service that population in such a small area? You would have trucks lined up for miles all day long. This is why they developed the cross-dock concepts. Keep the flow in MUCH smaller vehicles. Last time I asked about a delivery in NYC I was told to make dang sure I was in and out by 5AM. Regular OTR Class 8 CMVs should stay out of NYC unless it is a regular thing and you understand all (unwritten) rules. When I see some of the crap rookies and steering wheel holders pull in open spaces, the thought of turning them loose in a place like NYC, hmmmm give me some popcorn please because it's going to be a hell of a show!

Funny enough, while I agree with everything you said, I discovered early in my career I had to go to NYC quite a bit back in the day, and later in life before I got off the road I was going to Chicago almost religiously, and preferred it NYC, I guess it's a matter of perspective? (And bonus points for being chemical tanker, as we had a little bit easier time getting around.)

I was disagreeing with the context of the post. The same can be said for most anyplace anywhere. Follow all the rules get all the permits and your good to go. This in my opinion is not the question. However, going into and out of NYC is not a snap and never will be REGARDLESS of if you are permitted or not. As I stated, that place has a population of 8 MILLION souls in an area smaller than some of the smallest US States. Class 8 CMVs (with some exceptions obviously) should STAY OUT of NYC! Even with the cross docks, the number of deliveries and backhauls fuels congestion so bad the backups go for miles. No truck driver with any sense wants to have to deal with this. I have delivered in NYC I actually did a repo out of Long Island about 20 years ago. I also have been in Chicago (more than I care to admit) LA and places like the Dallas Mixmaster still give me nightmares. NYC is in a class all by itself and is not truck friendly and never will be.

The only place in NYC that's somewhat easy to deliver to is Hunt's Point. It ain't deep into the city, and whenever they finish all that work on the GW Bridge, it'll be slightly(used loosely) easier. Its just the traffic in that case.

I didn't wait for all mine to fall out. I went gracefully and shaved it off.
