Long Beach port truck regulations and flatbed trailers

    Is there anyone who can help me with what it takes to work out of Long Beach port? I have work hauling containers out of there and flatbed work from near by there to west coast destinations but have never done this type of trucking. I know there’s the carb compliant issue in California but don’t know the details specifically for the port. Also looking for truck recommendations and what brands to stay away from. I want to buy a used step deck that can haul flatbed; sheet steel and aluminum, and heavy equipment, looking for brand recommendations for a used trailer. Thanks

    You need a permit for ports. TWIC.

    Otherwise. You pay for escorts if they'll let you in or drop your trailer and they go in and grab your load.

    When I hauled. It was a couple of ports so I don't remember specifics to each port but that was how it was handled 5 years ago.

    Might be different now.

    Used to be $150 for someone to ride in your truck with twic, that was out of New Orleans, I once parked my truck off to the side and offered my services as a TWIC ride along, but they only hire their friends.
    There’s always a line of non twic vans/flatbeds there, 50-100/ day.
    Someone makin’ money.

    I used to go into New Orleans port. I never had to do anything but hold up my Twic and they waved me through. I could have had a picture of a Twic card and they would have never noticed.

    As of September 2018 only 2014 or newer trucks are able to register to work in the Ports.
