Each direction? Each strap holds 3k. If you strap all 4 wheels you have 12,000 lbs of securment. I always strap all 4 no matter what car/van/truck.

Stock sprinter 3500 dual rear wheels is 5600 lbs.

The 3 point straps pull to 1 direction. Yes, they technically go over the wheels and have a securement next to the front and the back but the tie-down is pulling the car toward the ratchet strap so that's its the direction of pull.

You are supposed to have 2 pulling the car forward and 2 pulling the car rearward. That means 6k pulling forward and 6k pulling rearward.

So if the van weighs say 7k lbs because it's outfitted you don't have enough directional securement if you are limited to the e-track 3k lbs straps. For a stock sprinter, it's ok, but if it's an outfitted sprinter it might not be enough.

3 point straps pull down not forward/backward.
When you lasso strap thats when you are pulling it forward/backward to keep them tight.

Yeah, but does the dot consider them 12k total securement in all directions or do they say you have to have the straps 2 pointing toward the front and 2 to the back? I never used them before so I'm just going by looking at how they are set up. If they consider it 12k then yeah not a problem then.

I've never had any problems in a year and a half of car hauling on the east side of the USA. 2 straps is the legal minimum as far as laws go that I know.
Hauled a 15k lb Ford F550 flatbed before and used 4 straps on the tires and 2 straps anchoring the chassis
to the trailer. Didn't move an inch. As far as I am concerned I strapped it with 18k lbs worth of straps.

Yeah see big stuff like that I use chains but I'm sure that was strapped well enough. Was that actually 15k though? Doesn't seem that heavy my F550 had a flatbed as big as that and is a crew cab and I think it was only like 12k with the bed on it. Is that a really heavy bed?

I know about those beds. I looked at one about 6 months ago in northern california. They say that the truck is only 12,500 empty. That is impossible, I asked for a weight ticket and they could not provide it. The manufacturer is a transport company owner himself, they want 45k for the body installed on you chassis.
I wanted a unit like that to replace 2 of my F650's with hydraulic upper decks (that also pulled trailers)
I run local, in Los Angeles doing dealer transport to credit unions and fleet customers. We also move a lot of slightly used Mercedes and BMWs to freight forwarders to be containerized and shipped out of the country.
I had a local car transport trailer repair guy make one for me to my specifications. I am really happy with how it came out. It definitely does the job. It is not as flexible as a trailer, for sure. But it allows me to run on 2 axles in any lane of traffic at full speed anywhere in town. Gets good mpg also. You need a CDL no matter what so you may consider just getting a sun country single axle 4 car trailer w/ air brakes. It is definitely a niche transport. I can get you in touch with the guy that built mine. He charged me under 30k mounted on my chassis. He re-used cylinders that he repacked and polished, tracking that he did the same. Looks good to me either way. he also mounted in floor straps like a regular transporter. My guy loves it. This is one of our old trucks, Trying to upload images of the new one. 20180118_081815.jpg 20180118_081804.jpg

Finally figured it out. The truck is 39' 6" overall length. It has a hydraulic extension that extends 4 feet. I know its only legal to go 24", but I wanted the flexibility if needed. Upper deck is 15'. Weighs 16.990 w/ full 100 gallon tank. Weight was 11,900 bare chassis. 6.7 cummins w/ 6 speed allison 3000hs transmisision and air ride. I owned a 5 pack years ago and would not have one again. It was very low in the back and dragged everywhere. This one has 22" of height and goes everywhere pretty much without issues.
It has fit 3 2021 Sienna vans with 14'2" max height and legal length with extensions at 24". 3 car 1.jpg 3 car 1.jpg 3 car 3.jpg 3 car 4.jpg
I know its not for everyone, buy for local, its very fast to load and everything can be done from the ground level.

Heh well if they are that heavy, I guess I was very illegal when I hauled my F550 home. :D:D

I guess luckily I pulled my signs off the truck and ran it as a personal load so no weigh stations. I never did weigh it when it had the bed on it but it had a 12ft flatbed with lots of toolboxes. I was honestly thinking it was only around 10-11k at most TBH.

I think towtruckmike was talking about the freightliner with the 3 car upfit.

The f550 was heavy because it had a hydraulic tailgate thingy, metal framing and you can see strapped to the bed was more metal frame things that go in the stake pockets. It was more than 30 ft long.
