not sure about insurance. My wife is a NY state school teacher with amazing insurance and we use hers. But our insurance starts from day 1. 401k is fine. They have a decent match. You get a good amount of time off. The year after you start, you’ll get 2 weeks vacation, 1 week personal, and a week of sick.

I’m really confused why you think Syracuse area is an expensive place to live?? I guess because it’s NY state, but really isn’t expensive to live here at all.

We definitely are. But, it works out good for n00bz like me. I came straight outta CDL school into a P&D flex position, working about 45-60 hrs per week, starting at $22/hr and topping out around $30/hr in 2 or 3 yrs, good benefits, and a healthy sign-on bonus. Beats the hell outta OTR for $0.30/mile.

Hey remember that time when you were thinking about going otr anyway when XPO gave you an offer?

Super glad it worked out for you going this route.

Upstate is nothing more than a dumping ground for the NYC ghetto trash..
Most of them all they want is to live off the system, and get their "free stuff" thanks to emperor cuomo..
Over regulation and high taxes are driving the actual working man/woman to states that aren't so heavy handed.

I was born in Elmira, raised in a Binghamton suburb, and still call Binghamton home for now. NYS is a national embarrassment thanks to cuomo, schumer, aoc, and the rest of them.

good luck finding anyone worth a sheet to work hard for a living..

Glad you are busy and making a good living...I'm sure all the free loaders appreciate our hard work.

Man.....you could pay every driver 6 figures and we will still be having the same discussion. If a driver is going for OTR, they won't want to give up too much home time to make money. If it's a vendor/foodservice ordeal, then it's too physical for them. These days, folks want that type of money, with a 40 hr work week, office gig, paid time off, the type of lifestyle that looks like something you see on a TV sitcom. All companies will always be hiring with VERY FEW exceptions, because trucking is a lifestyle, local or OTR, that interferes with that life the average person conjured up in their head. People chase fantasies. It's the way of our society.
