Please invest in the following products at your local Home Improvement Store: 10' step ladder, 5 gallons of lacquer thinner or appropriate solvent, 10 lb. bag of painters rags, and a 55 gallon drum of elbow grease. Now.........climb up on that ladder and get rid of the adhesive from the vinyl lettering that was removed prior to your purchase of that 20 year old POS. Can you possibly take just an iota of pride in your equipment???

It just may not be so much as vinyl adhesive as paint discoloration. The paint under the vinyl looks to be much whiter.
If this is all you can find to complain about how's about you get a life? Jeeez

Not complaining. Just an observation. Tons of these things on the road with dirt and grime stuck to the old adhesive and you can clearly read the previous company name as clear as day.

That could be a good thing. It points out the marginal operators who buy cast-off junk and try to milk a few more miles out of it.
Those old company logos are kinda like a caution sign.

The Pete I'm driving had pin stripes on it at one time. As it ages they become more and more apparent, and you certainly couldn't see them when I bought it 5 years ago. Not sure why it's happening, but I've scrubbed that truck and waxed it dozens of times. There's no residue left after all these years, it has something to do with paint oxidation I'm sure.

Buff it out, then put a fresh coat of hard wax on it. You’ll have to repeat this once or twice a year.

The sun couldn’t fade the paint behind the decals, it did fade the rest of the paint. In your case whoever sold you the truck did a really good detail job before selling it.
