I agree. I like the "Short Order" type of diner at the Little America.

I think you people are forgetting about something important.

We used to run paper. Meaning most truckers had as many logbooks as they did shoes in the truck. So if they couldn't find a place to park they'd just keep going. Now with ELD's we are FORCED off the road. So you've got this sudden need to park without any option to just keep going.

We didn't choose ELD's they chose us. We are an entire industry. Every truck stop I've been in I see multiple truckers buying overpriced unhealthy junk food from inside the store. But just like Wal Mart doesn't charge to park, I don't think truck stops should either. It's called a necessary part of the business. Want to get truckers into your store? Give them a place to park their rigs. Want to ensure you DON'T have business? Charge them to park there.

How long would Wal Mart stay in business if they charged for parking? It's an immediate turn off. When I see a pay to park lot and I'm out of drive time I will go on PC and keep going. The gov't can't force me to pay for health insurance, they can't force me to pay to park. I just put in the logs "Only place to park is pay, have no cash, will keep going until free spot is found."

I refuse to reward this ludicrous behavior. And to these morons that say "plan your day better so you can find a free spot" I don't know about them, but I don't set the #### appointment times for pickups and deliveries and I also have no control how long these live loads and unloads take so I could be FORCED to drive without drive time available. This means I'm literally being forced into a pay to park spot. Screw that. Just the other day I was told I was going into a drop and hook in Chicago. 1hr 48 on the clock when I got to the shipper. Get in, get out, get on. I get there, and it's a live load that took 5 hours. I was told by my company 3 different times via phone call and text message it was a drop and hook. How the hell am I supposed to plan better for stupid #### like that?

yes, I don't do pay for parking main reason most are dumps to begin with and why would i want contribute to that there's been a few times when I first started out up around Detroit personally hate the whole state. the only good I can say is they have a lot places to fish. But hey I can go to texas and be cheaper and not have worry about some animal lover say that's inhumane crap.

I am like mind your own business before I become inhumane to you 90% time I just catch release because I normally have enough deer meat already. my policy is you like get vegetables only fine don't screw with the only passion that keeps me from wanting fight all the time.

If needed, you need to pay for parking in a designated place like a janitor needs to pay for her broomsticks or a plumber for his wrenches or rather both need to pay for parking if they go to work in downtown Chicago.
You cannot be serious thinking that Walmarts are staying in business because of all those rigs stopping enroute buying merchandise there. I would not be surprised if those trucks do more damage to their lots than profits from whatever they buy.
Besides, today with new HOS rules, the 14 hours is stretchable and 11 hours is more than enough to find a spot. Let's not overdramatize the situation either. The most parking problems are alongside busy interstate corridors. Those who run their frequent lanes know very well various spots where the parking is guaranteed.

The parking problem will never go away as everyone wants to get as close to the receiver as possible. Those warehouses are often clustered in big urban areas and there is no way there could be enough real estate available for thousands of trucks delivering in the same area such as LA, Chicago, NYC, Boston, Miami etc.
Another issue that I notice on everyday basis is that certain big chain truck stops allow their locals to park on their lots over the weekend and overnights, making it difficult for OTR trucks to find a spot there. Maybe thanks to their charging for spots this is a more limited behavior from what it used to be.

TA Ontario property value is 17 million. 185K property tax. No reason to charge parking.
