Hank's Truck Pictures is gone

It’s been down for almost 2 years. I believe they couldn’t keep it maintained due to cost. Pictures started dissapearing off of it around 2 years ago and then it faded out.

Heard rumours on another forum I'm on that Hank was fed up with people reposting his pictures and cropping his name off the bottom, so he shut down the site.

Must've been serious about it because you can't even pull up archive versions of the site on Waybackmachine either.

 

That would explain why the photos had watermarks added to them or were intentionally blurred later on in the site.

That was just such a great collection.

Isn't there a way you can have a site like that but no one can download or copy the images?

 

I don’t know how that works. I don’t know if he owned them really. I guess he can claim them as his property but it was public domain and free to view them. If someone posted a pic on the site I don’t think they were paid for them. I don’t know the legalities.

Would be a neat thing to do. Maybe charge a $1 or $2 for every time someone wants a copy of a pic. Site owner and original poster both get a % of a “royalty”

 

There is no way to do that. Even if you code the site to disallow a menu option to save, the picture URI is plan text in the source. Then a person can screen grab them or get them from cache. It’s impossible to protect them from someone that wants them.
