I don't know how long it took. They build freeways and railways fast though. The Central Government says to get it done and the construction companies hit the ground running.
They're building another freeway system that's the most complex system in the world due to terrain and weather patterns. I've been trying to find the article and photos of it.

 

China is also building a new city, from the ground up. It will be a high-tech city. The new railroad station in the new city is costing $1.3 billion USD.

China also built a man-made river that flows south to north and is almost 900 miles long.
