One thing with app based gps is that you can try them for a low entry fee if you have the device for them. I can only speak for Copilot on iOS, but I suspect the Android version is similar. One other point about running on a tablet or phone is that you get to chose the machine with the display size you prefer, as well as almost guaranteed better brightness ability

Garmin Dezl for me. I had a Rand McNally before that would freeze up every once in awhile. Always look before you make a turn onto a city street to see if there is a no truck sign. These truck gps units are pretty good, but they are not perfect.

FYI - Rand Mcnally's website and data server are not functioning due to an alleged hack. Based on what I gather this is at least the 4th day they are down. That means no updates, and none of the real time features are working on the truck gps (weather, traffic, windspeed, etc). I found another post here with additional information, link below. Obviously until this situation is rectified, if ever, its probably not a good idea to invest in a Rand Mcnally GPS.

Is RAND McNally ELD dead web site is down since Monday

OT: I used to work for a global civil and environmental engineering firm and we were hacked by the Russian hacking group Evil Corp. These ransomware hacks are no joke, they converted every file on every server to an extension .evilcorp rendering the entire firm, worldwide, dead in the water for about a week. We were never told if the company paid the ransom or had some kind of specialists restore them. It's very possible they paid the ransom. I hope Rand Mcnally recovers from this. They just released a new version of their GPS so presumably they intend to remain in the market.

Just wanted to get the word out. If anyone has any information about this please share it.

Remember google maps routing is made for 4 wheelers....

It's good to see how to get into the right driveway but I wouldn't use it for routing from point to point...

Hammer looks good for your phone. I have it as a backup if my rm 730 dies, for Christmas I'm upgrading to the over drive 8 II..

My Garmin 770 is about useless now. If it sees a side road with a weight limit it routes around it no matter how far. Just last month I was going to a Pilot in Kentucky and it wanted to route me 225 miles out of my way because of a side road weight limit. I was 8 miles from the Pilot, on a two lane unrestricted highway. I now use CoPilot on my Ipad.
