There are a number of factors that can cause uneven wear:
Misaligned axles
Improper tire inflation
Excessive load, in excess of tire rating
Mismatched tires
etc. -
Over inflate tires will wear out the center of the tread. Under inflation tends to wear out the outside edges of the tires. On the front end an out of alignment tends to wear off one edge or the other. Left with out repair the tire will wear off heavily on the edge only. Drives will cup if not rotated (ie if the were rotating clockwise, switch to other side of the drives).
Uniform wear doesnt mean a bad thing at wall. It happens with time. At one time people were able to get tires with an A/B/C/D rating. A or B were a firmer rubber while C or D were a softer rubber. Yet manufacturers have given up with that as they have formulated better rubber forr the tires. -
out of align drives will do it.

They have also found the trucks are being built with axles case not being strong enough. So the drive or trailer axles are flexing when driving down the road. The are building trucks with light weight axle that are like 9.5 mm thick and they need to be 11 mm so they don't flex.

How often does this come down to a retread not being done right?
