I met one driver that was a hitman for the CIA. He said that at any second he may have to abandon his truck to do a contract anywhere in the world.

So the goat is 1/2 teaming where they drive 14 hours a day 10 for him and the trainer does 4 ...?

Or they just do 14 hours total with the drop and hooks and the goat does all the driving....?

Wasted Thyme and 650cat425 Thank this.

The way I do it is my trainee starts his day and does his PTI, then drives out. I start my clock just before he slips the brakes. The trainee will do most of everything, but I try and manage things to make the best use of his time. For example, when a pre-assignment comes in I will look for a good opportunity to swap into the driver's seat so he can take his time and do a full trip plan, but then will swap him back into the driver's seat before we get to delivery. Or I'll give him an excessive amount of time to do a drop and hook, then I will drive out to get to safe/legal. Newbies also can't drive a full day - it's not a knock on them, but reality. It takes time to build "seat endurance". There is no point in having him drive all day thru Indiana and Ohio just to have him too tired to drive into West By God Virginia. I'll swap him out around Washington Court House, then show him how the engine brake etc works as we go thru Gallipoli, then put him back in the seat in Nitro for the trip thru Charleston and the Gorge.

Training is all about managing what's happening to get your guy the best opportunity to learn stuff.

My trainer is similar. But I run the afternoon/evening hours. Due to when I get out that will most likely be when my appointment times are. Been running around 5 hours. We try to take breaks every 2.5 hours or so. Building up to that 8 hour endurance.

I'll get you guys an update tomorrow. But tonight will be my last night in this particular Stevens truck. Headed to the yard in Dallas to switch to the finishing trainer.
