I don't think it's a problem for you to drive it out of the state they just don't want you driving it up and down I-5 running it as a commercial Enterprise.

If I ever bought an older truck in California I'd get it out of there as fast as I can and never look back on that hellhole.

 

I see truckloads of old beaters plated in the communist state, rolling through the communist state.

 

Put 'er on a trailer and haul it to the state line?

 

Insure it, temporary tag it, IFTA permit for AZ - remove all numbers - roll out.

I know of a few that run old Trucks out there. They claim it’s not enforced. Even met one Guy who lived there, just had his old Cummins overhauled. Says he was questioned once at the scale. Told them he would call his wife and leave it there. They let him go. Lol. BS? Maybe. I believed him.
