Hey folks,
So sorry about my rant, but I just had to get it out.
I have had a class 1 license since 2004, drove for 7 years and then did something else.
Now, back when I started you couldn't get an OTR job because you didn't have any experience. The only way to get experience was to get a local LTL or like job.
Now, you can't get a local job because you have no experience and the OTR jobs are all crap companies that want to hire immigrants.
Since Sept 1st I have applied for 32 jobs and less then a handful have gotten back to me, the majority not even that - even though they had posted an ad. Great customer service ... not!
So I had a possible job lined up and they wanted references. Well sure, I have a ton of them ... but nothing for driving, as I haven't driven since 2011 and the company that I did drive for is out of business. So why do you need a driver specific reference? I have a spotless N abstract - does that not tell you anything?
Plus, do people not know that references are bias? Do you really thing people are going to use an reference that is not going to give you a glowing light of recommendation? Open your eyes man!
Anyways, enough with my rant ... has anyone else seen this. Got experience, but the experience needs to be from like 5 seconds ago ... past experience means nothing. Also, trying to find a driving job when they will hire unqualified immigrants over a qualified Canadian?
Geezzzz
Cheers
Just a Rant!

It's mega time for you.
Yup, retraining,refresher, running team with
A 6 month rookie telling you to shut up and
Do what I tell you.
Your basically back to square one.
Now there's always some 5 truck, low paying,
No benefits, no insurance job, around the corner
That'll throw you right in a truck.
But you have to ride around and find them. -
What Mega? This is Canada lol.
Canadianhauler21 and magoo68 Thank this. -
And yet I've heard it weekly that companies can't find anybody to come to work because they're all sitting at home on whatever welfare plan Justin invented for the month.
tommymonza, reeferwrencher, BigHossVolvo and 2 others Thank this. -
if you have a clean NSC that means you're overdue for a crash, good luck, the guy that wiped out that bus with all em hockey kids will have better odds getting work since he already HAD an accident.
yer gonna have to go with Punjabi and get facked for 3 months before a mega will hire you again probablyCanadianhauler21 Thanks this. -
The ADS are just there to meet their requirements for bringing in cheap help. They have no intention of hiring people that apply . The government believes their story that no one qualified is applying . Least that is the case with a big majority of slave shops nowadays .
BigHossVolvo and skipgears Thank this. -

I had meant to quote @AModelCat but forgot to add the quote, so adding it myself since I can't find a way to via the forum while in edit mode.
"And yet I've heard it weekly that companies can't find anybody to come to work because they're all sitting at home on whatever welfare plan Justin invented for the month." - Amodelcat from earlier in thread...bold is mine.
Here on my sandbar...far far far from Canada, we have a similar situation. Got people who claim there is no work, so they can sit at home, and get their unemployment...yet...almost every business here from hotels to grocery stores, are paying $12+ per hour. One of the local DQ's(Dairy Queen for those who don't know0 is paying $15 an still can't get people to come serve ice cream.
Not welfare..but eh, similar. Here we have work, an I think 15 bucks an hour to serve ice cream is a pretty decent wage.
I get that some folks need unemployment, welfare, food stamps, aka a helping hand, but it really grinds my gears when one CAN do for themselves and choose not to. A helping hand is a good thing, holding one's hand so they can avoid having to be a responsible adult is another.
Thanks for letting me sneak across the border to join in the ranting.
I stand in solidarity with my Canadian friends. Power to the Maple Leaf!
All jokes are made in good fun.

Something else to note, qualified drivers are too demanding on carriers, they want comforts and good pay, meanwhile an immigrant is malleable and tolerant of all abuses. Big business loves slaves, they just need a warm body to do the job, nothing else. Actually they need a life-less robot to do the job but the technology isn't here for that yet, so they resort to dealing with us, albeit very poorly. FML.

Thank everyone for the rant and the insight. Yah, it is a bunch of BS. I did hear that our ###hole PM allows these East Indian companies post ads and then whim because they get no applications, but they got plenty, just chose to ignore them all.
Sadly I am out west in BC (Bring Cash) and it is most East Indian companies here and they don't give s### about anything.
It is a sad day when it is easy to get government handout scraps but not a job your qualified for ... and man.
Cheers
