I have an eaton 10 speed that started with an issue friday. I replaced the isolator bushing that was wore out today. It took about half the slop out but still have the Exact issue i had before i replaced it. If i get up to any speed, any gear hi or low side, and im coming up to a stop sign, i can pop the clutch into neutral and i get a little chatter, but only when i hit the brakes to slow down. You can feel it in the stick regardless of its position in neutral, feels like its nicking a gear and you can hear what sounds like a gear nicking. It only does it in neutral, and when i apply the brakes. Tried to recreate the issue with it in gear and clutch depressed to come to a stop, but it wont do it then. Only in nuetral, only when applying brakes, clutch position does not matter. What could i be looking at here?

When going into the 3rd and 8th gear slot, which is the same, i can feel what feels like the same chatter/nicking in the shifter that i get when its in nuetral and applying the brakes. That started the exact same time when i noticed the nuetral gear nicking issue.

I am quite the amateur and I'm sure the experts will be along soon.

But when you have the clutch in the transmission isn't turning under the power of the engine.

Do you have any issues under acceleration or deceleration in those gears?

My amateur guess would be maybe the fork isn't completely pulling the slider away from the gear.

Maybe there's play in the rail and that won't pull the fork away far enough?

Is it a Super 10 ( you split every gear ) or you shift through 5th and change ranges?

No issue at all when in any gear, accelerating, or decelerating.

Shift through 5th, then split to the high side.

Well my amateur guess is that since you're saying you had a lot of play in the shifter is that the shift rail itself has play in it and when you go into neutral it's not pulling the slider completely to the position it should and you feel it going against the gear and when you put your foot on the clutch the transmission is not turning with the engine anymore and you don't hear it.

It could also be the fork itself or the combination of the two.

It's good that you don't feel anything accelerating or decelerating because your main shaft bearings are not letting the countershafts move up and down.

We will see what the experts say but I would say that's in the top cover in the rail and in the fork.

    Muddydog79 and Hammer166 Thank this.
