Probably have a loose/bad connection somewhere. Check the connectors from the lights back into the harness. Pull them apart and make sure they are not corroded. I always spray some contact cleaner in them, but I know guys that use WD40 to clean them. Then put a small dab of dielectric grease on each one before re-connecting them.

I had the same problem when the company I previously drove for had all Volvos. The shop replaced the wiring harness and the problem was fixed. The next truck I got (another Volvo) had the same issue on the opposite side. The shop replaced that wiring harness and the issues were resolved.

I think the idea @kemosabi49 gave you will help you stay moving and not have to go into a shop for it.

The harness connectors at the front near the hood hinges is where I would start.

Most likely there is a broken wire in the harness where the hood pivots, very common problem.

My situation was when I would put my high beams on the left side would completely go out so I pulled the left side head lights and found the problem, gave it a temporary repair but time for a new harness..

I drive a 2019 VNL760. I had the right side low beam go out on me. Turned out to be the wiring harness going to the headlight assembly. Where it had been zip tied to the frame rail it had chaffed one of the wires and shorted out. Repaired wire, redid how harness was attached to frame. Problem solved. It think it is a common problem as the mechanic went pretty much straight to the harness when troubleshooting it. It didn't take him long to find it.
