Not much of a process for new cars. The BOL has the bay number on it and you just walk through the lot finding the cars, loading them, get signed off at security and leave. Its pretty much self serve.
Couldn't pay me enough to drop cars at the port though. Had to drop in Jacksonville once and I got stuck for 5 hours dropping one car. Never took a car to any port since.
I use a port drop lot in Jacksonville now. 25-50 bucks each car and they take it to the port for me. I just add that to the quote before I take the job.

500 miles is regional IMO. That's pretty much what I do 500 mile hops and I tend to stay in the south east but sometimes make my way up into the mid west or OK, Tx ect.. if I try to follow the money.
But yeah little short runs like that $300ish/unit as 1.5 day run is what I'm talking about. I can't really do the $300 dollar units though and make any money so I tend to look for the odd ball stuff so I can get the prices up a bit to $400-500 each. but yeah same idea.
On side note, yeah the tolls suck up there.. I used to be in PA every week when I ran reefer. Luckily I mostly just went into NJ if I had to go all the way in. We'd mostly drop at cold storge facilities in PA then I'd have to run into NJ or DE to get a reload across the lovely toll bridges...Last edited: Dec 3, 2020
