Is the 14 from Vancouver WA to the Umatilla Bridge a good alternative route to i84 on the Oregon side of the river? I want to avoid as much of the 80 bucks Oregon would charge me for driving in their state.

It is alternative route. It’s 2 lanes the entire way. Nice scenic route. Some spots are down to 35 MPH because of curves. A few signals and stop signs.
Will take you longer. So, you will have to decide which is more important time or money.RunningAces and nikmirbre Thank this. -
Also more dangerous with the 5 tunnels you have to go through that are under 12’ at the edges of the white line. If your hauling a van you’ll have to center up in the tunnels and run the risk of head oning on coming traffic.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember any tunnels on 12.

Only $80? I pay Oregon at least $600 every month. It's just part of doing business in the great northwest.

Mtn boomer he’s talking about 14 not 12. OP, it will take you a few minutes longer but I’d do it just for the views. It’s cool to see the Gorge from the opposite side as normal, and while it’s only a 2 lane, there’s very little traffic. Just watch those tunnel edges like dude said.
It’s the Gorge, crap it’s beautiful.Blue Zombie Trucker Thanks this. -
Highway 14 has tunnels East of Vacouver. I usually cut across at hwy 197 (The Dalles ). Still saves a hundred miles of OR road tax. Balancing OR road tax with WA IFTA it will leave about $20 in your pocket each way.randomname Thanks this.
