I've pulled one hazmat load out of FL to NJ. It was citrus oil so not really dangerous. Just need to make sure to stop at railroad tracks and avoid tunnels and restricted roads. Can't really say the extra few CPM made any difference.

I screwed up by removing the placards once I was empty, didn't know they had to stay on until tank got washed.

Definitely got to follow that fuel tanker protocol when you're hauling that. Of course with all the food-stuffs we haul, it's pretty easy for those steps to lapse if one isn't careful. I only become abreast of the knowledge when it comes time to renew my HAZMat. Read that section of the book for a week, then blaze that re-up test.

Have to admit I am guilty of hammering the practice tests just enough to pass the hazmat test. I have very little knowledge of actual hazmat regs. Luckily for me the shipper had all the correct paperwork and did all the placards.

If I were doing hazmat regularly I would insist on proper employer training.

You should receive Hazmat training from your employer. And have to re-certify every three years. If you haven't had this you should ask your company. The fines for HazMat violations can be horrendous. And the more you know and are comfortable, the safer you will be.

Things are good. Been running hard, but had a few days to sit on a load and wait for another over thanksgiving weekend but it happens around holidays. Luckily I was close enough to home, I left the truck at the truck stop and went home for thanksgiving. Been enjoying tanker life so far. Loving not having to deal with grouchy and incompetent lumpers. I’ve been getting long runs and making what I’m happy with.

Not yet. Everything so far has been good. Had to wait around for a load a couple days over Thanksgiving weekend but with the holiday, it’s understandable. I was at Homs anyways so I didn’t care.

Well the flip flop crew struck hard. Turning into the loves in Wells, NV and guy turns from the center lane directly into me. It filed a police report and had several eyewitness and a few other truckers caught it on their dash cams, which is great because we don’t have any and I hadn’t got around to purchasing one yet. Dude trying showing the deputy his dash cam which obviously showed nothing. My truck is out of service it, messed up the steering enough I’m not driving it. But I managed to limp across to the Petro, just so it doesn’t get filed as a DOT reportable accident. Now I’m waiting till tomorrow morning to figure out a tow out of here. I was due for a new truck anyways.

You could start a whole new thread just on the flip flop crew! You'll get a bunch of responses from angry flip floppers defending their right to be comfortable.
In all seriousness though, we're glad you're ok. Trucking can be dangerous.
