Taking a week or two off in trucking?

All depends on who you work for, I suppose.

Family and health, first. Any decent company will recognize

 

I doubt you would get fired for that, but you would probably have to clean out your truck.

 

Something to keep in mind, trucks are expensive. Companies make money when trucks are pulling loaded trailers. This is why, as was said above, don't be surprised if your tractor gets assigned to someone else, if you have to take a couple weeks off.

 

Vacations are different.

Vacations are planned well in advance.

It sounds like what you are talking about is an immediate I have to leave right now there's an emergency type of situation.

 

What's a "vacation"?

 

Hopefuleyes, You are getting way ahead of yourself. Get your permit, make it through Driving School and your Road Training with your Mentor. Your first year solo, especially the first 3-6 months is going to be one of the toughest times you have experienced in your lifetime. Truck Driving ain't UBER. Prepare yourself. 90% of new drivers never make it past 6 months. Do not be one of those drivers. Good luck
