I mean, I get live traffic on my GPS and Google maps, monitor weather ahead of me and try to stay away from ghetto truck stops pilfering chicken feed.
I’m not laying down some decent coin on a good unit until I’m with an outfit where I can bring the truck home.
Prob not going to get much range even with a mag mount antenna but oh well.
Most of my loads are hazmat anyways so I cant just detour anywhere around stalled traffic too.
Its better than nothing i suppose.

It's a nice little unit for the situation you describe. As you mentioned, an external antenna is mandatory. Rubber duck antennas are worthless. The unit will be more useful for listening than for talking

With an external antenna it's just fine (my son uses one with a mag mount antenna)

Yeah, it's the antenna that makes the difference. Everybody else workin' the same 4 Watts as long as we're all playing by the rulebook. It's how you capitalize on those Watts via the antenna that separates wheat from chaff.

My first CB was a RS Realistic hand-held. I still got it. I screw on the coax from a 36" to 62" mag mount and go to town. It still does the job, the taller the better.
