What is a truck's MPG and fuel capacity?

My local day can has a 100 gallon tank on it and I get about 3.3 mpg loaded but I pull over 80k
When I was Otr i had 2 100 hundred gallon fuel tanks and that truck was a fuel efficient new freightliner.. I was getting about 9mpg. But I didn’t shut my truck off for months..

You don’t want to use your personal card to buy diesel, the company will give you a fuel card to purchase diesel and def and each store has its own rewards card like loves and pilot. It’s kinda like a speedy rewards card. It holds your showers and gets your tons of free stuff if you save up you could get some nice stuff.. I bought my 110$ cb with points and when I came home I still had about 160$ in rewards.

 

You can spec a truck with 1 tank that holds 75 gallons or 2 tank upto 150 each tank. Most trucks have 2 tanks that hold 120 gallons each.

You would never use your personal credit card to buy fuel for a company truck. They give you a credit card basically. Lots of companies use Comdata, is a card truck stops take and you fill the truck up when you need fuel. You get the driver rewards card from the truck stop. When you buy fuel you swipe your Comdata fuel card, then you driver rewards card. That way you get free shower credits and the rewards for buying the fuel.

 

A new truck today can get 7.8 or 8 MPG pretty easy with APU. If they build/spec a truck for MPG, not everyone does that so might only get 6.5 MPG or something. Back in the 90s caterpillar engines might only get 5 MPG

 

Make sure you use the truck stop chain's rewards card. Pilot/Flying J has a gig where I'm usually getting 4X reards points for the last half of the month. I've bought a CB, a mic, an decent antenna and mount, tons of soft drinks... and I spent no moneys.

My '18 FL New Cascadia, 500hp 15L w/ manual 9 speed has 190 gal capacity, mpg varies a LOT with payload weight, weather, terrain, WIND, anything from 3-4 on hard long climbs to nearly 10 deadheading. Avg around 7.8mpg.

 

My Freightliner with a Detroit 60 gets about 5.5 miles per gallon. Always close to 80k pounds. Fuel gage quit working aboot a year ago so I go by the gallon meter. With two 80 gallon tanks I fill it up at around the 100 gallon mark.

 

Depends on the truck, how heavy the drivers foot is, as well as the size of the fuel tanks.
Company trucks will usually have 150-200 gallons max.
The Cascadia trucks can see almost 10 mpg. @Dave_in_AZ has had his truck up to 9.4 mpg (blackie, name of the truck)
If you can drive conserveatively around 65 you will do betteer than a driver whom mashes the pedal to the floor and does 85.

The tired Columbia I drove for Western Express with a plugged air filter (they didnt want to change it) got almost 5.8 mpg. It was governed to 62mph

 

Anywhere from about 3 to 10 mpg. A lot of variables at play. Van trailer, light loads, flat ground and aero truck will be closer to 10. Heavy loads/oversize loads, mountains/hills, high horsepower is going to be on the lower end of the spectrum.
