I am guessing it is just a valve for a coolant line, which heats the fuel in cold temperatures. I have a FASS that has ports for coolant to flow thru. You close the valve in warmer temperatures.

Can diesel fuel be 175* like the engine temp if I just bypass this thing. From my understanding fuel likes to be cool.

The warmer the fuel, the better the mpg. Think about all the diesel exhaust you smell at a truckstop during the winter compared to the summer. Heating the fuel helps prevent against gelling, but its not necessary.

it doesn't heat your fuel it heats that filter housing as stated to prevent gelling in the winter. you need to replace it and make it right. Why is it so hard to do something right?

Just run the coolant thru the base and install a shut off valves to block the coolant off in the warm weather.....and isolate the filter.....
