Your theory is correct. Only downside I have seen is at 7 years my exhaust housing had seriously rusted. Not thru. Just put a new blanket back on. If it goes, ill swap housings or just by new 700.00 turbo.

Can you get these smaller? I might need one when I got to do a 2nd gen swap on my pickup so the turbo doesn't melt everything under the hood.

Yes you can, mostly based of turbo exhaust housing size. T3, T4,T5,T6 and so on. Maybe some applications require specific parts. PTP makes them for other people. Same one on Amazon direct from them is half of Pittsburgh power.

    Thanks!

Absolutely. There's a few companies that make them for all kinds of turbos on those engines, from stock to whatever. They can also make custom stuff. When I made the hot pipe going between the turbos on mine, I just video taped me taking measurements, and sent them the video so they could make a custom blanket for that part too. Can't remember the company though, but they're out there.

No, if that were an issue, we'd be inventing stuff to cool the EGT pre-turbo. Bearings are already cooled by oil, and most of our big trucks, the CHRA is cooled with actual coolant too. Always best to keep that exhaust coming into the turbo as hot as you can. Any heat loss is energy loss.
