My last few weeks have been absolutely insane and I'm trying to make sense of it.

I was at landstar for a year. I had a chance to acquire a truck from a friend that was only a year from being paid off. I had been curious about landstar, so I decided this particular truck would be the best way to try it out.

Here I am at the end of my year. Truck is paid off. Overall, I couldn't stand landstar. Culture of inconvenience. But, I thought I did pretty well because I handled all the challenges this year threw at me. Did I make more money than I did as a company guy? Maybe. I guess so.

Now, I'm trying to figure out if this next part was a rash decision or a gut decision.... But I'm currently on a load with my old company. Yeah I went back.

The last 2 landstar incidents were this:
    1) getting lied to about an appointment and having to sit at a receiver for 4 days, going home late to Thanksgiving.
    2) them taking 5 days to give me a empty trailer after the holidays, and then giving it to some one else even though I told them I was gonna get it and that I had booked a load.

I wasnt even that angry anymore. Kind of just chuckled. And then in that moment of whatever I was feeling. I hit up my old fleet manager.

Bottomline, I decided my future was not at landstar.

My main idea was to go back to my old company. And In the meantime, sit my truck down and think about setting it up to go out own authority. Kind of just weigh out my options.

However, as I get back to this company, I feel like I've made a long term choice.

I am 27. A little backstory. Before I tried landstar I was in college. This particular company, I came to them at 23 after working at prime for 2 years and basically told them I want to go back to college, but I want a company that will allow me to just come in and work on the breaks from school.

They talked it over and then they said well do it. Boy, I wouldn't have made it through those 2 years of college without this company what a blessing they were. I ended up with my engineering associates. 3.6 GPA and on the honor society. I would literally be taking my last final and then go jump in a truck for winter break or whatever.

I mean, what company would do that for someone?

So this week, I get up here. And clearly, they're hoping I'm here to stay this time.

It's a small company, about 50-60 trucks. Everyone in there knows me. I walk in on Monday, they're all happy I'm back. CEO of the company comes up and says were so glad you're back here a free jacket.

My fleet manager even told me if I get tired of driving at some point in the next few years, they'd make an office position for me. He pitched it as a good way to piece together the rest of my degree that I interrupted.

So the culture at this company is no BS. I'm feeling the love. ####, I was wearing apparel for this company while I was working for landstar.

Have I sold my soul? There's no way I'll be able to walk in, say 6 months from now and be like, ok I'm leaving again. I guess the current situation is making me think less and less about those stupid ideas of building some big fleet with the POS truck I have.

So what should I do with the truck? It's a 2013 cascadia, 680k miles. I feel like I have an asset that I earned. I'm proud of it. But it's not good to just let it sit for extended periods of time.

I guess I'll just go with this for a few months and see how I feel.

I guess it's a case of having more than one good option? Hey I'm 27 and i feel like I've trifled around the United states aimlessly since I was 19, so maybe I'm not used to it.

Company is based out of the area I want to live long term.

And, soon as I rolled into town on Saturday, I pulled up to my old roommates house and he goes "hey, buy my house this summer." ####. I want it.

In other words, this post is just about a lot of life stuff and what does all this mean. Feels like my life is coming together right here.

Just park the truck for a year. Then reevaluate what you want to do at that point.

You don't think it hurts the truck to let it sit like that

Sounds like things are working out. Maybe we get so used to the struggle that when things go good and seems to be working we can't make heads or tails of the situation.
Take a month off , go on vacation or do something exciting and than revaluate the situation .

Work smarter, not harder. That means finish you degree and be a guy with a tie that throws cologne on the face every morning . Leave trucking to "losers" like me... I have $200 cologne in my bathroom for two years now that's still half empty and...only one suit - and that's more than enough.

P.S. I was kidding about the" losers". Sort of kidding....but kidding, nonetheless.

It is a good time to sell now. If the spot market flips next year you won’t get near as much.

Sell it, sounds like you have a good company to work for and it doesn’t sound like you’re committed to trucking for the long haul. I would not have a piece of equipment setting for a full year.

Start it up once a week and drive it around the block.

So you would continue to pay insurance and keep it registered for a year for a maybe? Waste of money in my opinion but to each his own.
