the trucks aren't that far apart in weight and if you ae pulling that close to 80,000# the truck can't save u that much weight.

O.K. so i have been tossin around the idea of buying a newer truck. yeah i know me owning something newer than a 1998 !!! but i cant help but wonder how much$$$ could i put in my pocket by switching to one of the columbias/ volvo with the detroit/mercedes and a automatic or a 10 spd and all the airtabs and super singles the battery apu no idle shut it off if your butt leaves the seat trucks. i have heard of 8.0 mpg is not unheard of. my 98 379 550 cat 18 spd i run 64-65 mph and my avg is 5.919 lifetime ????

My Peterbilt 379 clocks in at 19,840 lbs with half a tank of fuel. Not a light truck, but I love it.
But if you want a Kenworth, I'd put my money on the W900L. The only Kenworth that's aerodynamic enough to really have an impact on fuel mileage is the T2000 -- and that's assuming the freight you're hauling is also reasonably aerodynamic. -
I drove a t-600 for awhile 475 cat twin turbo, 13sp, with 3.36's pullin a reefer and I would avg bout 5.8 loaded up to close to gross. but I never ran over 72 truck was governed at that.
On the same note I drove a 379exthd. 475 twinturbo 10spdod, with 3.36's and we avg'd bout 5.3 running the hell out of it.
I say if the trucks are compairable as far as looks or quality if you will i'd do the w-900 over the t-600
On another note a friend of mine has a 03 w9 550 cat 10 spd, 3.25rends and he gets right at 6 so he says. granted its an older single turbo so its possible with proper right foot techniques. -
olblu362 Thanks this.

NICE i have been looking into aero trucks and taking my operation out of the stone ages just not sure . couple of my guys say take away the old petes and they are gone but i think i can put more coin in their pockets if i make the switch . i have been looking at volvo 770 with the work stations freedom line trannys and cummins engines also looked at one columbia with an automatic with the mercedes engine both were actually pretty nice to drive and comfortable on the road 1.20 mpg better avg puts alot of money in the bank at the end of the year.thats why i would pick aero over classics. then again i did find a sweet 84 K100 stretched and dropped in the truckpaper the other day
