I'm sure this has been beat to death but there hasn't been many examples with 2 drivers. I want to run a team in a crew cab f750. Wondering if anyone has had experience logging berth with the mattress running from the dash to the back of the cab. Passenger seat removed. Pulled a tape and found the space to be adequate. I have a 63" bunk that may go on if needed. Just want to test the waters with the mdt before cutting the cab up. If I can get legal running front to back in the cab I may extend the cab rather than adding the bunk.
    Opinions?

    Thanks,
    Mike

If you don't want to click the long looking link from some random dude on a form, lol here's the screen shot of what fmcsa constitutes as a legal sleeper berth..

Section (h) I think the issue will be adequate occupant restraint..?

I'd just spent the 2 grand on a Woodhouse sleeper for the backseat & be done with it..

While I agree, the problem with a woodhouse, and any other I've seen, is the passenger seat is removed for access. Makes running team difficult.
Of course I'd be more worried about space for stuff like clothing. Running team implies being away for a time...

@KANSAS TRANSIT didn't you run your mattresses front to back in your Chevy's when you had the RV account? I remember someone telling me about it and think it was you.

LoL, I also feel running a team in any crew cab size truck seems like a bad idea..

But imagine this front to back deal in a head on collision!!
+ you'd have the sleeping guys feet right next to you while driving!!

Then the rear bench seat has to come out as well. I guess there is then the option to install a bucket seat of sorts directly behind the driver's seat for co driver to sit in. But now there is even less space to keep gear for 2 drivers.. Seems like no fun too me..

    @Lite bug & @24kHotshot
Both have, or do run a front to back passenger side sleeping area. But don't run it as a team.

For one guy, I think it works out well..

For the OP, it may be near impossible to meet the occupant restraint requirements running front to back. It would be better to not reinvent the wheel and put the sleeper berth in a more traditional orientation or just get a truck that already has a DOT compliant sleeper berth like a M2 Freightliner or International 4400 series, better yet a single axle class 7 tractor.

The seat is removed because it is a requirement under 49 CFR 393.76

Loud and clear. I have a substantial amount of time and energy into this particular truck. But not alot of money. It will be a true class 7 tractor. 400hp, 13speed. Just happens to be a crew cab. I do really like the m2s. Maybe on down the line. I have enough wheelbase to put the 63" pete bunk on there. Just wanted a way to test the waters without cutting the back of the cab up.
    Thanks all,
    Mike

In there case has dot compliance been tested? They most likely log off duty like everyone else.
