With aggregate hauling to cement plants it was maybe a week or two with a trainer then on your own.

I worked for a dump company in the 90's that did. That's a long time ago tho. Check with a local cement company or construction company and inquire about their requirements. Let whoever it is know your situation and the most they can say is no. In your situation, i don't know how much or little experience you have. But for someone wanting to go local , you're gonna have to call all the local potential opportunities in your area and see if you possibly meet any of their requirements. This will take research an leg work on your part. Depends on how bad ya want local. Worst case is , you get a regional gig an get 1 or 2 years under your belt , don't wreck stuff an don't get any tickets and you'll be able to land a local gig easy.

    Mr. EastCoast Thanks this.

Also check out places like sygma network. If ya have one near you i believe they have a training program for rookies. They usually have out an back runs. Also other grocery gigs like mclane food service , performance food service , associated grocers. Those all have some local work available in certain areas. I don't know how many have training programs but it's places for ya to check out.

If you live in a somewhat rural area, look for agriculture jobs. You seem to be worried about being trained, you have a CDL now, drive fool!

I stared out out a construction company as a laborer digging holes for fiber optic lines, then I got my CDL through them so I could operate a horizontal drill.

I really thought I wanted a local job when I got my CDL. Was OTR for about a year. Got a beverage delivery job with Coca Cola. God how I hated that job!! Between my 35-40 minute commute each way, 12 hours at work MINIMUM! The only thing I did at home was sleep, eat, shower, and s#!+. After several months I went back OTR. Give it a shot......you may like it. Certainly wasn't my cup of tea. Glad I did it though........got the idea out of my head how wonderful a local gig would be!:D:angry5:
