So, out a month training with prime and I realize I like driving but not all the other BS..Waiting around, truck stops, etc etc..Lifestyle stuff and I want more of a life. Like the idea of being out no more than 5-6 days. What’s my path? I’ve had my CDL since Mid-Nov. almost 2 months, been OTR currently a month. I really do NOT want to have to be out here a year. Just bored out of my mind! I can see myself hauling the FEDEX or Estes stuff at night. Something high paying but that will enable me to have a life. Need a path/advice. Thanks.

    bentstrider83 and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Switch to regional. a ton of companies offer regional,, home-time greatly depends on where you live, the other option is local, home ever night.
You could go to drive for a temp agency I've been doing that for several years, I can not disclose the particulars of what or whom I'm actually driving for now, I can tell you it can work you every well, I have driven for UPS, to USPS, to Whole Foods and many more, liked them all just depends on me. Give Centerline a call.

You need 1 year experience to at least to get a shot at Linehaul depending where you live. Sometimes those companies offer apprenticeship for those with less then a year of driving.

You could try United Van Lines or Mayflower which move household contents.

This post should be on a billboard and pretty much bolsters what I've said all along. Few realize, it's a lifestyle not many are used to. All is not lost, I say, stay with it for a while, and keep your eyes open at the local freight houses. Now is probably the absolute worst time to a job change, even before the virus. But it will pick up again in Spring, it has to,, and don't burn your bridge where you are. Maybe you could work on a dock somewhere, spotting trailers, and an opening comes up, you're already in. Hang in there, America needs ya'!

Get your T/X endorsements and apply for jobs, LTL has dock to driver and dedicated driver training program.

Did your cdl come with an Auto restriction courtesy of prime?

You never wanted to be out here,
You just wanted the free CDL from
    A mega.
Because you don't know anything about what it's
Like out here after a month at a mega,
    With a trainer.

They're gonna get that money back,
    One way or another.
All parts of trucking is full of BS, get used
To that or find another profession.

Your not gonna be at little joeys soccer practice
5 days a week and off on the weekends,
    And make a 100 grand a year.
That's all bull, we work longer hours than
    Any other profession.

What kind of quality of life you think your
Gonna have at some local job working
70 hours a week. Plus you have to commute
    Back and forth everyday.

And get a that 9 to 5 out of your head.
You'll be starting at 1am or 9 pm or some
Other stupid hours to avoid traffic.

When all your family and friends are off,
You'll be working, and vice versa.

This is why I'm all for mega's bending drivers
    Over anyway they can.
Paid your way there, paid your housing, fed you,
    Trained you,got you your CDL,
And your out the door in a month because
You never had any intentions of sticking around.

How many times a year do they have to
    Put up with this.

I’m getting all the necessary endorsements when I go home. Doubles triples and Hazmat. I know I’ll need those. I have Tanker already.

I went to school on my own and trained in a manual for the very reason that it’s not got to have restrictions.

trucking is easy and boring for me man. I want something where I can go out either 5-6 days then home for a couple. Not going to burn my life away sitting at truck stops. I’m too old to do the US foods type P&D stuff. That would kill me!
