Or if there are ticket-happy cops.
Case in point: 2008 recession in California, cops were pulling people in droves and writing tickets. Little old ladies driving to church going five under were getting cited.
    Made me sell my Ducati.

There is no driver shortage. There is a shortage of companies willing to pay new drivers a living wage and not micro-manage them until they quit. Every year over 500,000 new CDLs are issued. But the mega companies, with their 90 to 100 % annual turnover, are always looking for new meat to screw over.

    Sounds a lot like teaching.
I suppose I'll be used to it then.

You can go a few mile an hour over, I pretty much always run 5 over, even in Iowa and they can be real sticklers on speeding. Honestly if you've never gotten a ticket in almost 20 years, I would worry more about the other 999 things they can write you a ticket for.

I would not be worrying about how well driving jobs are staffed right now. Just know this. You get that CDL, make your pickups and deliveries, on time, every time, do so safely, day in and day out! Show by your record you can be a good safe driver a company can depend on! You will always have a job! You become just a warm body in a driver's seat holding a steering wheel that constantly gets called into safety? You will at some point find yourself un-hirable and flipping burgers for minimum wage at Joe's Burger Emporium!

You do know that you don't have to tell your company until AFTER you have been awarded a judgement by a court.

You could be charged with reckless driving but then 4 months later you go to court and it's dismissed or reduced to improper use of vehicle horn or any other non-punitive charge. If you immediately told your company you received a reckless driving citation chances are they will let you go.
