Been hauling fuel recently and IMO
it beats otr. Pays more home everyday trucks aren’t neutered 4 wheelers aren’t as dumb compared to driving 53 footers. Had to learn how to do everything but I did. Also no more having to deal with the lack of available parking and tas having just 30 free parking spots out of 100. And no more paying to park someone else’s pos truck and freight. Only cons so far are working weekends which is to be expected and making deliveries to ghetto areas. Some drivers say they like the variety of otr well fuel has variety too. You don’t always load at the same place or go to the same station everyday something to think about. Happy where I’m at.

See? We told you you'd like it. One of the best things about tankers is that so many drivers want to do it the companies can pick the best applicants instead of just taking anything with a pulse.
Not saying tanker drivers are perfect...just maybe a notch or two above the rest of the available driver pool.Dennixx, Crude Truckin', Banker and 3 others Thank this. -
I found hauling fuel to be enjoyable. I liked not having to rely on anyone. Load and unload all on your own, stayed fairly clean. All the fumes you could handle. Lol
It’s perfect for people who are anti-social or have very little patients for sitting at docks waiting on some donkey to get around to you so you can carry on with your day.Badmon, haz-matguru, HiramKingWilliams and 3 others Thank this. -
Still stuck in food-grade, but pining away to move over into fuel hauling(I've had and maintained my HAZMat ever since I got my CDL back in 2004. Strangely enough, not a single HAZMat job where I'm at). Even with the non-HAZMat, tankers overall seem to be much more enjoyable than van hauling. Been on it eight years now and often wonder why so many stick with vans/reefer despite complaining about it.

I’m actually really looking at getting into either fuel hauling or some other hazmat tanker work. Started doing food grade a few months ago just to see what driving tanks would be like. Figured it would be less explosive if I messed up with milk. That’s probably dumb logic on my part, but so far I love pulling tanks.

It’s been nothing but peace for me...everything I could ask for in a trucking job....unlimited hometime.. never have to worry about getting home or being home just to get ready to leave.. awesome dispatchers but I don’t have to talk to them unless somethings amiss.. no micromanaging. Long as I have her back and ready for the next guy around... and the ghetto stations are the best ... it’s where all the action is
