LTL vs. Foodservice--I've done both.
Foodservice is some serious hardcore physical work. Every single stop is fingerprinted and two-wheeled in, sometimes stocked (put away on the shelves). A lot of customers are OK, but you'll get your share of "the universe revolves around Me and My Store" types. 3rd shift start times are common. Lots of different product at different temps, leading to a lot of possibilities for damage and shortage claims, which you'll also have to deal with. Diplomacy and customer service skills are a must-have.
LTL has two main categories: Linehaul and P&D(Pickup and Delivery).
Linehaul is where you make bank. You pull doubles/triples between terminals, sometimes working the dock if your run is short. Mileage pay beats anything OTR will give you, and hourly pay for dock, drop/hook and fueling (yes, we DO get paid for all that, why don't OTR?) is lucrative. Most LH runs are overnight.
P&D runs days. You deliver and pick up freight. Depending on your area, you could be bumping docks in industrial parks and/or running a liftgate in rural towns. Hourly pay, OT will vary depending on your company's policies and whether they let you get it. You won't make as much as LH, but you'll be home at night, and your body and brain will be in better shape.
Hope this helps.Rctruck87, Mooseontheloose, snowbird_89 and 2 others Thank this. -
Chinatown, McUzi, Gearjammin' Penguin, I immensely appreciate all of your input. Without a doubt y'all have given me a lot of valuable info.

Don’t just put your resume out there and wait. With Indeed, you have to actively search and try multiple different search terms, then keep checking them for new results every few days.griswold Thanks this.

Maybe try USF Holland. I’m assuming they have a yard in Springfield/Joplin area. My brother is currently working for them out of Sikeston.
