Best tanker company in Houston area

I think I would go over to the Qualawash in Channelview and start talking to drivers. There will be many in and out getting tanks washed and some on a downtime will give you some time. I did that before at another tankwash. That place is crazy though. Don't go on a rainy day!

 

Thank you for this, really helps. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like my fuel hauling company will make it through the pandemic. It was a new company and people are staying home and now possibly working at home indefinitely. Anyways, Tampa, Florida is not good for driver security. So, I'm relocating to Houston. I'm wondering which type of tanker work would you say is the most stable and that a fuel tank driver may be able to covert over to? I only did retail, so would need to train on pumps. Its best to get on at a private fuel hauler in houston. Like loves, pilot, or r. b. steward.

However cryo pays well but any other that air products cant keep drivers because of strict policies and driver facing cameras.

LPG isn't doing too well since the virus. But loves is offering a $3500 retention bonus. Mainly drivers won't stay because of the piece of crap manager that's over that division. And they don't have any work in Texas.

However Western International Gas is a decent place. But if you don't live somewhere on the west side of H-town. Or a western suburb of Houston. The drive would be horrible.

Yes and Thanks again. I am leaning towards being on the east side. Mainly because of the port. Also, Im liking what Dupre has to offer; on paper at least. Website says they have Chemical and Fuel divisions that they're hiring for. It just seems to me that chemical production and transport is big in Houston.

 

You're absolutely correct.

 

H-TOWN has the largest petro chemical area in the country if I'm not mistaken. So there are several tanker driving opportunities in the area. Living in Baytown, Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, or Channelview would be great for the commute to work. But bad when hurricanes move in or plant explosions happened.

I was able to move to Houston with a job. Instead of moving first then trying to find a job. Witch was great, however I came to H-town during the boom. I recommend researching and applying to companies before you move.

Air Products, UPS, Peroxychem, Suez, and Praxair( the new Linde) are the top 5 paying companies for a truck driver in H-town. 90k-120k per year is easily achievable at the listed companies. And is a decent wage with the cost of living in H-town. It just depends on what you want to do.

Fuel haulers do ok but they're not breaking the bank around here. Some local and most Linehaul LTL drivers do pretty good depending on witch carrier they work for. Cryogenics pays decent, but Matheson, Airgas, Messer, and Praxair(the new Linde) can't keep drivers because of driver facing cameras, nights and weekend work schedules, and or horrible management.

But having a clean CDL with tanker/ double & triples/ hazmat and a twic card will always guarantee employment in the Houston area. But it might not be what you like.

I have a friends that either work there now or have worked at all these different places. And they have told me the good and bad of these positions. And some I've been at
myself. So I can give you some insight. But of all the Dupree drivers I known. None of them work there anymore. None where chemical drivers just fuel and crude oil drivers. But they all left by 2017. All of them said it was because of pay.

However my buddy at loves said they are about to change over to hourly pay. But they are too many drivers at the loves terminal in houston to make any real money. Unless you get on the DEF run.

 

Love`s went to hourly pay on January 6th & with driver facing camera`s too. They have 4 openings at the B`ham location now for the first time in years. I talked with a Gemni driver the other day & he said drivers are mad about the camera facng them & have quit.

 

Thats great info. Thanks for taking the time to lay it out. I just arrived in La Porte last week. Dupre is advertising for ISO Tanker. Trying to learn more now, but yeah while hourly is tempting at $21 that could get ugly as opposed to a weekly guarantee that come with fuel. Regardless, theres a TON of more opportunity than in Tampa. Thanks again!

Not to knowledgeable of that area outside of Air Products (Santa fe springs) and a few Amerigas districts.
However my guess would be its some what the same as H-town. Just a higher cost if living.

Hell there are so soooooo many ppl from cali that have moved to Houston. And everyone of them that I've talked to said they had to find a place with a lower cost of living. So it makes me wonder why anybody would live there. To include my cousin thats been out there the past 25yrs.
