I can't understand laughing at somebody being professional, unless you're checking tire pressure on hot tires or unscrewing your coolant cap under pressure. Then again we all know there are individuals who are less than professional on the road.

A post trip shouldn't take as long as a pre trip unless you find a problem. I usually log 15 minutes for pre trip and 5 minutes for post trip.

Who cares?.. the company can require whatever they want as long as its not illegal.. adding a 15 minute documented inspection at the beginning middle or end of the day is something they can require from their drivers... Chose the hill you want to die on... and this would be a stupid hill to die on.

Well I do take a moment to put on special post trip sneakers which are oversized with large red toe caps.
    That might be a factor.

There are no guidelines on how long a pre or post-trip inspection (DVIR) should take. It only stipulates what should be inspected and that they have to be done while On-duty.

I was told by safety and compliance that if you only log 15 minutes for a pre or post-trip inspection that a police officer could ask you to show him/her how you could inspect your vehicle(s) in the time you logged.

Interesting read from Michigan auto law.

They're idiots. A post trip is more like a "pre pre-trip". I spend far more time on a post trip than a pre trip. During post trip, I inspect every tire with a microscope. I look at all hoses for leaks. I check all lights. I look over that truck with a fine toothed comb. Why? Because if I find a problem, I've got ten hours to fix it before the next day starts. Why would I want to find the problem during a pre trip, and then I'm screwed until I can fix it? My pre trips consist of starting the truck, and waiting for air pressure to build, because I do a legit post trip.

Hmmm never logged a post trip in 31 years of driving, dozens of level one inspections and never a ticket and never been asked. Only log 10 min pre trips. I even asked Nebraska Scale in Waverly NE
No it is not required as long as you are satisfied with the condition of the equipment. More for the drivers who slip seat and or drive a different truck daily.
So I guess I will just keep doing my thing. Since the DVIR requirement changed to only doing one when defect present.

The requirement is that your company doesn't have to keep a copy of the report unless it notes something wrong. You are still supposed to do one.
