I agree, post trips make more sense. And in winter, any time it isn’t bombing rain or snow is the best time for thorough inspections.
I will say that at the very least before driving the truck, one should do a quick walk around and thump the tires, because tires that were fine the night before can leak down, that goes double if you have an inflation system that masks small leaks.
Driver manager keeps trying to make me log 15 minute post trips

Lot of good answers here , just don't sweat it schneider is a starter company you'll be getting better gigs down the road. You can log it while eating breakfast or taking a morning dump .

You can look in the green fmcsa handbook, there is no set time for pre/post trips.
Most did 15 on paper cause it was in 15 min intervals.
Either ask where it is in employee handbook or cause bs and have him and you meet at whichever terminal he dispatch you out of and tell him you’ll have a DOT officer there and he can explain it.
It says log it like you do it, and if you actually inspect it to the companies spec sheet it’s going to take 2-2.5 hours pretrip.JolliRoger, God prefers Diesels and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

[Docket No. FMCSA-2012-0336]
RIN 2126-AB46
Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance; Driver-Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)
AGENCY: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), DOT.
ACTION: Final Rule.
SUMMARY: FMCSA rescinds the requirement that commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers operating in interstate commerce, except drivers of passenger-carrying CMVs, submit, and motor carriers retain, DVIRs when the driver has neither found nor been made aware of any vehicle defects or deficiencies. This rule also harmonizes the pre- and post-trip inspection lists. It responds in part to the President’s January 2011 Regulatory Review and Reform initiative, removing a significant information collection burden without adversely impacting safety. The Agency also makes a technical change to section 396.11 to eliminate redundant language.nredfor88, RubyEagle, gentleroger and 1 other person Thank this. -

Since you work for Schneider just “Log” a 15 minute pre/post trip...it’s not hard.. post trip takes 5 mins ... sit in the truck go about your business and log off duty after 15 mins.. I used to do my pretrips off duty when I woke up, typically went and took a shower. But I would go on duty when I was atleast 15 mins over my 10 and edit my pre trip in... Long as you actually do a pre/posttrip and “Log” it you’ll be fine
