I have a class A. Been driving a city transit bus for the last 4 years, (14 years total in transit). What would be the best course of action for me to get back in? I did drive for Schneider for about 4 months in 2007 it was a horrible experience, Houston to Baytown nonstop 80 dollars a week. I do know that I would have to take a refresher course. I have no problem with that. Old dominion is always looking for local doubles drivers near me. Is that a pipe dream or something that is possible? Thank you for the help
Looking to get back into trucking

Are you in Houston?
Old Dominion is worth checking into. Maybe "dock to driver" program; ask about that.

why would it be a pipe dream. you have class A and you are confident you can drive. Dont believe all the nonsense you read that you have had to be driving class a for a while before someone will hire you. You dont need to g over the road. Any local company will hire you. If you can pass there road test, you will get hired. Someone might go out on the road with you for a day but thats it.
OldeSkool and meechyaboy Thank this. -
You have a CDL and are breathing. Looks like you might speak English as well...ya probably a pipe dream.

For sure try old dominion. They might be willing to take you on right away and if they do your walking into one of the best paying jobs in the industry.
If you cant get in right away. You are going to have to make a choice. Do you want local or OTR? With a year of either, you should be able to get into old dominion if you keep your record clean. I don't know the local companies in your area but for OTR I would highly recommend considering Magnum LTD out of Fargo. They might give you a short refresher. Maybe like a week or two with a trainer but soon enough you would be out on your own. Their pay is good, and their equipment is not only great it is equipped for driver comfort with an APU and an inverter. -
Yeah, Magnum Ltd. is a good choice.
