How bad is truck abandonment on your record. Not a load abandonment. I had a death in the immediate family and my company wants me deadhead from Florida to McAllen, TX and then go grab a load going to California to go home. Im out of hours and my recaps suck the next few days. I’m fed up with it and just want to get home either by plane or getting my own rental. Just wondering how much of a career killer it would be

It probably won't kill your career but, you'll have issues finding another job. And those that are willing to hire you will probably not be the best..

parent? sibling?, to hell with the company, fly home.
cousin? aunt? uncle?.....get the load and get home. you might miss the funeral, but you will still be there, albeit later, to show your respect to the family. if anyone (in your family) thinks about bashing you for being late? well....i'd have to PM you on what i'd tell them..
parents and siblings take top priority to me, over relatives.
this is one thing i had to deal with myself. i have had aunts, uncles, cousins die, i did not rush home.
luckily for me, my sibling and parents did not pass away while i was far from home.
tough call.

Yes these fellas above are right. I just addressed the abandonment issue, the driver side of me says leave that truck and fly home. Thats quite a ride while grieving like @bryan21384 says

Yeah ok thanks. Yeah I’m going to probably just leave it. If it bites me in the ### later then I’ll deal with it then. Just was curious how much it might affect me in the future

Id present this scenario to your employer....

How about you tell your employer you will leave truck at airport and will be back to grab it once you finish with family issues?

Just secure it and fly home
