Owner operators Pros and cons of car hauling vs dry/refer vans

Any specific questions? Carhauling and dry vans/refers are on the other end of the trucking spectrum from each other, but many of us have done all 3.

 

Word gets around quickly in the car hauling world. I believe much of your success will depend on the company you recruit for and their reputation. Turnover is probably no where near as great as dry van thus limiting the pool of potential recruits. If you put the company your working for on here you'll find out quickly how steep of an incline you face in attracting owner operators.

Loading or unloading fees? On some winter days I wish I could hire a lumper!! Or when it’s 100 in the shade!! Here’s a common misconception and I’ve been asked this hundreds of times in my 20 some years of car hauling. “Who loads and unloads your cars?” And “do you have to wait long to get unloaded?” The operator inspects, loads, secures, drives, unloads and gets cars inspected at the dealer or wherever they get delivered. The receiver gets them when I get there like it or not within business hours or some dealers take night drops. That’s one good thing about car haul. We don’t have appointments and that makes it easier to keep rolling.
