I have a 05 Columbia with a series 60 engine when I’m at highway speeds my water temp gauge goes down to 100 degrees but when sitting idling it will go to above 150. My ac/heater will stop working also but works fine when idling, appreciate any advice I don’t want to pay someone money if it could be solved by changing a sensor or fuse

    6wheeler Thanks this.

My guess the thermostat stuck open, coolant goes through rad all the time. When you move at highway speed the airflow passing through rad is overcooling the coolant, when stopped even if the thermostat stays open without airflow temp goes higher. I read that are designed if breaks to fail open, is less damaging won't cause overheating. But if the thermostat is stuck open , engine oil temp drops and moisture won't evaporate can mix with oil causing sludge and for newer engines with DPF low eng temp causes regen problems.

It isn’t anything but the thermostat. One is bad and stuck open.

Thermostat is what controls the water temp.
