I am looking at several trucks and would appreciate your input. Specifically, I am looking at an 07 truck with an ISX 530 and I am looking at several trucks with the Detroit Series 60 in varying years. These trucks are at auction so I can't do the normal due diligence I would do in purchasing a vehicle. I can inspect the truck and run it but you are not allowed to drive it so I would appreciate any suggestions for things to look for. I've purchased a truck at auction before so I know the risks and I try to account for those risks in the purchase price.
First, I am looking at a 2007 truck with a 530 horse ISX. The engine is an ISX 530 with about 450k miles. The engine # is 79155322 & engine family # 6CEXH0912XAH. What are some things to look for when inspecting and what are the known issues with this motor.
If I do purchase this truck, what things should be closely watched or upgraded on this motor. Lastly, what are the emissions for this truck. Is it an EGR only?
Lastly, I am looking at several trucks in varying years that have the Detroit Series 60 12.7L and 14L. Are there certain years that I should stay away from and is there a preference between the 12.7 & 14L and what are the known issues for each?
Thanks in advance for you input.

I had a relative with the 2006 ISX (2007 model year truck). Within the first 1,800 hours it went through a turbo (vanes in the VGT seized) and a couple EGR valves under warranty.
Personally, I think one would be better off with a Series 60, even if it is the EGR 14L version. I spent some time wrenching at a vac truck company and 90% of the trucks were 14L powered Western Stars. Most of the run time was PTO work and I cannot recall ever having an issue with the engines.Atlaw4u and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
I have a 2007 ISX, and I've always been a Cummins fan.
Go with the Detroit.... -
