Best utilization of clock on this 720 mile load?

    Let’s say you’re in a truck, governor set at 65 miles an hour. You have a load going 720 miles, picking up Sunday morning, and delivering Tuesday morning. You’ve got a fresh 70.

    What is the best way to run this? Push for 600 miles on day one, drive 120 miles day two and deliver on day three?

    Or do you do 360 miles day one and 360 miles on day two?

    Does it even matter in the long run?

    While I typically do this, since I haul bulk chemicals the receiver won’t have room in their tank to receive the entire load until after their production run Monday. I already have delivery at 6AM when they open Tuesday.

    No 'wrong' way on that. I'd tend to run 500 to 600 the first day. Getting closer sooner leaves more time to contend with an unexpected event, such as a trailer tire blowing, without effecting being able to deliver on time.

    Drive as far as you can on the first day, get parked in a good place near the receiver on the 2nd day. Might need to be able to run some decent miles on the next load(s) so I'll want all the hours available I can get. So fresh 70 or not, get a 34 reset in. Let the company pay me layover as they sent me on this stupid load in the first place.

    You always need to put miles on the truck when you can. An exception would be your house is on the way and you can stop and visit with Mama for some "catching up", right ?

    I'm an even split, and setup a great recap. Do you get home often for resets, or do you run long? These things affect the decision.

    Yes. There's a difference if you run recap or not. I do and prefer to have similar gains every day. The short days are when I do laundry and vacuum. If you do 34s you do that at home so find a diversion on the way and plan around it. Thats what I would do.
